Milestones and ages on charts
Mark life, money and world events on your net worth charts, and see your net worth at each birthday.
Milestones are dated events you mark on your charts: a new job, buying a home, a baby, a market crash. They help explain why a line jumped or dipped. Find them under Planning › Milestones.
Adding a milestone#
Choose Add milestone and fill in:
- What happened: a short title, like “Started the new job”.
- Date: when it happened, or when it will.
- Until: an end date, for something that lasted a while, like parental leave or a year overseas. Leave it blank for a single day.
- Kind: Life, Money, World or Other.
- Whose: one person in the pool, or Everyone. This only shows once you’ve added people.
- Notes: anything else.
- Show on charts and reports: on by default.
The Milestones page lists anything still to come under Coming up, then the rest by year, newest first. Use the ⋯ menu on a milestone to edit it, hide it from reports, or delete it.
On your charts#
Milestones show on the monthly net worth charts, on the Reports page and the dashboard:
- A single-day milestone is a dashed line with a ⚑ flag. If a month has more than one, the flag shows a count.
- A milestone with an end date is a faint band across those months.
- Hover a month to see its milestones by name.
The Milestones switch beside the net worth chart turns them on and off. It’s your own setting, so it won’t change what others in the pool see.
The Reports page also has a Milestones card listing what happened in the period you picked. Milestones you’ve hidden from reports stay off charts and this card, but are still on the Milestones page.
Birthdays and ages#
Birthdays aren’t milestones. Give someone a date of birth in Settings › People and their age can show on charts instead.
Beside the net worth chart, pick whose age to show, or No ages. It starts with the person linked to your login, if they have a date of birth. When it’s on:
- Each birthday gets a faint line on the chart.
- Hovering a month shows their age then.
- When the chart spans a few birthdays, the bottom axis reads “Age 38”, “Age 39” and so on instead of months.
Net worth by age#
On the Reports page, the Net worth by age card lists net worth at each of that person’s birthdays, and how much it moved over the year before. It goes back as far as your history does. Older transactions, or opening dates on your accounts, take it further back.
To keep someone’s age off every chart, turn off Show age in reports on their person. Archived people don’t show either.
